CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Survivors of an American spy ship attacked by Israeli forces in 1967 participated in a panel discussion in Charleston.
The Saturday event was part of the Naval Order of the United States' national conference in Charleston.
The Post and Courier reports that The Liberty was patrolling the eastern Mediterranean on June 8, 1967, when Israeli jets attacked it. The Liberty was eavesdropping on communications during the Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
Israel said it was a case of misidentification.
The attack killed 34 of the Liberty's crew and injured 171.
