Officials: Former Panthers coach John Fox taken to Charlotte hospital

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Officials say former Panther coach John Fox will need heart surgery.

A spokesman for Fox's current team, the Denver Broncos, says Fox will undergo aortic valve replacement surgery later this week.

He is expected to miss as much as six weeks of coaching while he recovers.

Fox has acknowledged that he needs the surgery, but had been planning to postpone it until February when the N-F-L season ends.

The team spokesman says Fox was golfing at Quail Hollow Club in South Charlotte Saturday when he felt light-headed and became dizzy.

Officials with the Broncos told WBTV Fox walking around and is doing well.

A golfer told WBTV he saw Coach Fox at Quail Hollow club when Fox got sick.

Fox was the coach of the Panthers from 2002-2010.
