Coroner: Heart attack killed woman before hit-and-run, driver sought

Authorities say a Columbia woman who was found dead in downtown Sumter Friday night suffered a heart attack before being hit by a vehicle. Police are still looking for the driver.

Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock said 62-year-old Doretta Bradham Johnson likely had the heart attack shortly before being struck by the unknown vehicle.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Warren Street near Main Street, Sumter police said.

Police are looking for a dark colored mid-sized car, which may have possible front end damage.  The vehicle was last seen heading toward Broad and Washington Streets.
