COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Nearly 1,000 people from across the Palmetto State gathered to celebrate the South Carolina State Museum's 25th birthday.

The museum also celebrated by naming one of its most iconic objects, the three-ton life-sized replica megalodon shark that is 43-feet long and hangs from the ceiling on the second floor of the museum.

"Finn" was unveiled as a winning name before a crowd of people celebrating the museum's milestone.

The museum partnered with the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind (SCSDB) to select shark names for the public to cast their vote.

SCSDB students selected their favorite names for the shark and then museum staff and volunteers narrowed those names down to the final five.
