SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (WIS) - An investigation by the Air Force Inspector General concludes that a female airman was the victim of sexual misconduct several times throughout her career while serving at Shaw Air Force Base.

Last October, the woman submitted official claims she was the victim of sexual misconduct throughout her 17-year career.  Some of those alleged incidents occurred while she was assigned to Shaw Air Force Base.

The six-month investigation included interviews from more than 200 witnesses and thousands of pages of documents. The investigating officer found eight officers, ranging in rank from colonel to captain, were responsible for 14 of 38 allegations the woman claimed.

According to the 9th Air Force Department of Public Affairs, the investigation concluded the incidents of misconduct included displays of sexually offensive materials, consumption of alcohol during official academics or ceremonies, and failures to prevent sexual harassment or investigate complaints.

Air Force officials say the commanders responsible for those officers took what they determined was appropriate disciplinary action.  Six of seven officers remain on active duty.  The case remains pending against an eighth officer.
