USC fraternity and sorority community host concert supporting Martha Childress

Posted: Updated:

In response to the recent safety concerns in Five Points, the University of South Carolina fraternity and sorority community organized an event to support fellow student Martha Childress and her speedy recovery.

The free concert was held at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center and dubbed "Not So Thirsty Thursday."

"We want to raise awareness about the safety issue in Five Points, and show students that their voice is really important," said organizer Riley Shipman. "Students came together in just over a week to plan this event so we really want to show them that."

The event, organized by students in a short time-frame, also shows how the university community supports one of its own.

"Any USC student feels passionate about it," said concert organizer Meagan Early. "We really are family here in the Greek community. When one of our own, when something tragic happens we all want to support her. It's such a tragic accident and we want her to know that people are here for her and are thinking about her."
