COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Proving that it always gets worse before it gets better, South Carolina is on another list it probably doesn't want to see itself on.

According to a report and data analysis from 24/7 Wall Street, the Palmetto State is the fifth most dangerous state in the country.

The website came to its conclusion through comparing each state's violent crime statistics, poverty rate, percentage of population with Bachelor's degrees, and property crime rates.

The report first points at South Carolina's 18.3 percent poverty rate, which is well above the national average of 15.9 percent.

Analysis also shows the state has a long way to come when it comes to violent crime.

"Though it has been transforming itself into a hotbed of manufacturing, with companies such as Boeing and BMW opening manufacturing facilities, South Carolina has the nation's fifth highest violent crime rate," said the report.

The report goes on to say that the murder rate in South Carolina is the fifth worst in the nation and the aggravated assault rate is the third worst.

New Mexico, Alaska, Nevada, and Tennessee all round out the top five.
