COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A water line break has forced officials to close a portion of Broad River Road in Columbia this morning.

According to the Highway Patrol, the break happened in front of the Dollar Tree at 3100 Broad River Road, which is near St. Andrews Road.

All westbound lanes are closed in the immediate area. Officers are on the scene to direct westbound traffic around the closure using Zimalcrest Dr.

As a result of the water line break, the City of Columbia Water Works issued a boil water advisory for customers on Broad River Road between Young Drive and Metze Road.  Customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute before drinking it or cooking with it.  People in the area who experience low water pressure should boil their water as well.

All food processors and restaurants should comply with prescribed USDA and SC DHEC recommendations.  Anyone with questions should call the Lexington/Richland County Environmental Health Office at 576-2910 or the South Carolina Hospitality Association at 765-9000.

Questions concerning healthcare facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities should be directed to the SC DHEC Division of Health Licensing at 545-4370.
