SLED: Woman embezzled funds through fake woman's identity

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

SLED has arrested and charged a woman with embezzlement after authorities say she created a fake employee for her job and cashed checks using the fake woman's identity.

Officials say SLED agents arrested 38-year-old Shannon Doak on Thursday.

Doak was an administrative employee at the Ashleigh Place Group Home, a state-funded group home for teen girls.

Investigators say Doak managed to embezzle over $18,000 in funds through the process she created.

Doak was taken to and booked at the Barnwell County Detention Center.

SLED began the investigation at the behest of the Barnwell County Sheriff's Department.
