SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -
LEE CO. 1, RICHMOND HILL 0
The Lee County Lady Trojans came up with big defensive plays, and manufactured just enough offense to squeak out a road win in a do-or-die Game 3.
In the first, LC's Ashley Morris reached with a single, stole a base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Then a groundout scored Morris to give the Lady Trojans the 1-0 advantage.
That would be all Lee County needed thanks to some fine defensive efforts.
In the 7th with the tying run on first, Richmond Hill's Taylor Rine hit a drive to center that bounced off the top of the wall.
But Lee County CF Dara Thigpen played it perfectly and threw a strike to third base to cut down Liz Wallace for the second out.
Then with the bases loaded, LC's Ashley Nichols robbed Caroline Williams of a hit and stepped on third base to close out the ball game.
The Lady Trojans hit the road again for the second round. They'll take on the Houston County Lady Bears.
CROSS CREEK 7, WORTH CO. 1
The Worth County Lady Rams simply couldn't muster enough offense to advance to the second round, falling 7-1 to Cross Creek in Game 3.
The Lady Razorbacks got on the board first, scoring two runs after a second inning throwing error.
Cross Creek added another run in the third before Worth County responded with a run of their own.
The Lady Razorbacks put it away in the 7th, scoring four runs to push the lead to 7-1.
