Man out on bond accused of sexually assaulting 76-year-old woman

SUMTER, SC (WIS) -

A Sumter man is in jail and accused of sexually assaulting a 76-year-old woman while she was taking out the trash.

Bryan Rolle was arrested by Sumter Police Tuesday afternoon. He's facing charges for the assault, kidnapping, and burglary. We've learned Rolle was out of jail, on bond after a June arrest.

According to investigators, the victim told them Rolle pushed his way inside the home, and forced the woman into her bedroom. The police chief says she was beaten and sexually assaulted.

"These are very unfortunate circumstances," said Police Chief Russell Roark. "A horrible thing for a lady to live through, but it did come with some positive news and that is that we did make an arrest."

Rolle was out of jail on bond, charged in a burglary in Sumter over the summer. Back in 2007, we found he was arrested for assault and battery, and in 2010 for contempt of court. The chief says Rolle knew the victim. He also says the woman was lucky she to get away.

"People do some terrible things to each other, especially when it involves the elderly who can not defend themselves," said Roark. "When you have a gentleman break into their home, sexually assault them, physically assault them, it's only by the grace of God she was able to get away."
