Pilot injured in airport accident

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A 74-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a propeller at Sumter County Regional Airport Saturday, Sumter County EMS PIO Bobby Hingst said.

According to airport personnel, the pilot was attempting to manually start a gyrocopter around 10 a.m., and it stuck his legs. 

Hingst said one of the man's legs was severely injured.

The man was airlifted to Palmetto Richland hospital in serious condition, Hingst said.
