Report: NC man met minors online, forced them into prostitution

Posted: Updated:

Sexual Assault Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested a man they say was involved with human trafficking and prostitution of minors.

Tony Drum, 30, was arrested Tuesday and charged with human trafficking (child victim), facilitating a minor's prostitution, supervise, support, protect a minor's prostitution, and attempted human trafficking.

Detectives say they determined that Drum met an under-age female through an online chat-room.  In late August of this year, he drove to South Carolina, picked her up, and brought her back to Charlotte.

Once in Charlotte, Drum then forced the girl into prostitution, police said.

Later, an alert officer saw the victim while she was walking alone, and discovered that she was listed as a missing person.

The officer continued to investigate, and soon found reason to contact Sexual Assault Detectives because of his suspicions of possible human trafficking.

Detectives gathered evidence and information, and soon signed warrants for Drum's arrest.

On Tuesday, officers located and arrested Drum on the 6100 block of Wilkinson Boulevard. The also found a second female victim inside his vehicle.

Drum was taken to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Sexual Assault Detectives and admitted meeting both girls online and taking them to Charlotte for the purpose of prostitution.

Anyone with additional information concerning this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704)334-1600.
