SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police and the bomb squad investigated a potentially suspicious bag that was left at a gas station in downtown Spartanburg Monday.

Capt. Art Littlejohn with Spartanburg Public Safety said about noon Monday a man on a moped dropped a book bag off near an electrical box in front of the QuikTrip at the corner of Pine and East St. John Street and took off.

The road was closed in front of the QT and traffic was diverted at Pine Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue, Pine and Main streets, East St. John and Galbraith streets, and East St. John and East Main streets during the investigation.

According to FOX Carolina's photographer at the scene, the bomb squad only found clothing and travel items in the bag. The roads were back open by 2:20 p.m.

Littlejohn said the moped rider had not been detained and no description of the rider was available.

FOX Carolina crews at the scene said the bomb squad brought their robot out to investigate the bag.
