$615,000 raised to help fight breast cancer in Walk for Life/Race for Life

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

More than $615,000 was raised Saturday to benefit the Palmetto Health Breast Center and its patients, Walk for Life/Race for Life organizers said. 

Ashley Dusenbury, spokeswoman for the Palmetto Health Foundation said a record number 8,812 racers also participated this year.

"We can't thank the community enough," Dusenbury said. "For 23 years, our community has embraced Walk for Life/Race for Life and has helped us raise more than $7.5 million for Palmetto Health Breast Center. Thousands of people joined us this morning to meet breast cancer head on and help beat it in the Midlands."

The 23rd Annual Walk for Life/Race for Life, held at Finlay Park, honored those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.

WIS partners with Palmetto Health and the Palmetto Health Foundation to help raise money to fight breast cancer.
