LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) -

Lincoln County Sheriff's detectives assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation executing a search warrant Tuesday morning at a Bexley Lane residence west of Lincolnton.

As investigators and agents began searching the home they came across a device that appeared to be a bomb forcing them to exit the house, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

The Gaston County Bomb Squad was called in and exploded the device in a field behind the house.

The device is known as a "Cricket" and constructed from a carbon dioxide cartridge containing gun powder and a fuse.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Detectives Sally Dellinger and Dan Renn charged Donald Eugene Cunningham, 36, of Lincolnton with one felony count each of Second Degree Sexual Exploit of a Minor/Distribute Material and Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, according to the release.

Detectives said Cunningham unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did distribute, receive and exchange photographic images of child pornography.  The minors, whose names are unknown, range in age from 8 to 15 years old.

Cunningham was ordered held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond.

He will have a first appearance hearing Wednesday in Lincoln County District Court.

The FBI seized computers and electronic equipment from the residence for further investigation.
