The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office still has not identified a body found inside a burning truck, but they do know how the victim died.

The coroner says the victim was killed due to a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies say the burned truck belonged to a man who was reported missing Tuesday.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says the spouse of a local businessman filed a missing persons report just after midnight. She said her 61-year-old husband had not returned home or been in contact with her for several hours.

Later, the Santee Fire Department contacted the Sheriff's Department after they responded to a vehicle fire in a wooded area on Antioch Road near Wactor Road in Santee.

Firefighters located a body inside the vehicle after the fire was extinguished. The vehicle was later identified as belonging to the missing person, according to Ravenell.

The coroner says he is now attempting to identify the body through dental records.

The investigation is ongoing.
