GASTON, SC (WIS) -

Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in identifying the person or persons who fatally shot a 21-year-old Gaston man on September 24, 2009 at the his Gaston home.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives have identified persons of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Andrew Phillip Powell, 21, of 225 Goodwin Road. It appears that the shooting was not a random act, Metts said.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the motive and circumstance of the fatal shooting of Powell, Metts said. Detectives also are continuing to seek evidence that would enable them to establish probable cause to obtain arrest warrants in connection with the shooting.

At 4:26 a.m. on September 25, 2009, deputies arrived at Powell's home after Powell's stepfather, Billy Mack Powell, called 911 and reported that he had arrived home at about 4 a.m. and found that Powell was not breathing and might be dead, Metts said.

Deputies found Andrew Powell lying on his back in the corner of the home's living room. Andrew Powell was deceased.

Metts asked anyone with information about Andrew Powell or Andrew Powell's death to contact the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff's Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
