(WMC-TV) - Threats against a prosecutor landed a defendant's sister behind bars, but the Shelby County District Attorney says they are not scared.

"Regardless of what your day job is, you should be able to go to work and not be the victim of a crime," said DA Genreal Amy Weirich.

The threats reportedly came during a hearing for defendant Demequa Bonds. Police say it happened Thursday in open court to one of Weirich's prosecutors.

A nurse was charged last month in the death of a 3-year-old Bartlett girl left in her care. According to the affidavit, the defendant's sister was overheard threatening assistant DA Jennifer Nichols.

The suspect allegedly said she "ought to go up there and slap her out of that chair" and "I could see myself putting a bullet in her head."

Betty Frazier, 30, was identified by her sister's attorney. She was then later arrested and charged with retaliation for threats made during the administration of justice.

"Typically, when we see defendants or suspects or family members threatening anyone ... Often times it's the defendant's own lawyer," said Weirich.

Weirich, who has been threatened herself in the past, considers it uncommon. Also, it is unable to deter her office from doing its job.

"Just like with any crime, we're not going to tolerate it," said Weirich.

Frazier is being held on a $250,000 bond. She is due back in court on Monday.
