The following Perspective is an expression of opinion by the Editorial Board at WIS and presented by General Manager Donita Todd.
For those of us who live here, Columbia seems to be coming of age. We are starting to get some of the respect we deserve by recently being dubbed one of Kiplinger's 10 Great Places to Live, one of the best college towns, one of the 10 most creative cities and one of the 30 best cities in the nation for young entrepreneurs. But some just can't give credit where credit is due.
When Charleston Post & Courier Columnist Brian Hicks took umbrage with our city's accolades, many of you good citizens stuck up for your city! How dare he be so snarky! We thought Charlestonians were known for their good manners and gracious natures. We all know how charming Charleston is and that it's on every travel and foodie magazine's must-see list, but give Columbia a little credit why dontcha'!
We have a world class art museum and zoo, performing arts, a vibrant downtown area, and charming neighborhoods. We have the State Capitol, USC, championship college sports, and beautiful natural resources that provide many enjoyable outdoor activities. It's a great place to be.
We're more than just Famously Hot and two hours from the mountains and beach. We're Columbi-yeah!
