LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

Authorities in Aiken County are investigating the shooting death of a 25-year-old Lexington woman.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Kerry Eck was pronounced dead around 3:30 Friday morning near the intersection of Camp Rawls Road and Highway 39 after being discovered in a vehicle.

An autopsy completed on Friday led Carlton to conclude that her death should be considered a homicide. The cause of death, according to the coroner, was severe head trauma from a gunshot wound.

Carlton said the shooting took place Thursday night at 10:00 p.m.

A suspect is in custody, according to Carlton.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Eck leaves behind three young children.
