(RNN) - It takes a big voice to fill the shoes and dirndl (think German bodice-like dress) of Julie Andrews.
Carrie Underwood has been cast to play Maria von Trapp in the live adaptation of the iconic Sound of Music.
The production, airing in December on NBC, is based on the stage musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein that was adapted into the 1965 Oscar award-winning film starring Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Stephen Moyer of True Blood fame is set to play Captain von Trapp.
Britney's back, yet again. Except this time it's in the form of a Las Vegas show.
Spears took to Good Morning America on Tuesday to announce a two-year, 50 show residency in Las Vegas. The show is called Britney: Piece of Me and will debut on Dec. 27 at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
According to Spears, Piece of Me will feature many of her hits including Oops! ... I Did It Again and Baby One More Time as well as songs from her upcoming album.
The title of the new album has yet to be announced but we do know it will be released on Dec. 3. This week Spears released a song off the upcoming album that has a slightly familiar ring for Britney, it's called Work B****.
Tickets for Piece of Me go on sale Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. ET.
Lately rumors have been swirling that Katy Perry's hit song Roar is a little too close to Sara Bareilles' Brave. Bareilles fans became outraged shortly after Perry released Roar, claiming she stole the melody from Brave.
However, on Tuesday Bareilles spoke out against the rumors and said she's not complaining about the recent spike in Brave's popularity.
"I was stoked. I was like, 'Great,'" Bareilles said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I was like, 'You guys want to go get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great.'"
Bareilles went on to say that she and Perry are friends and have had recent discussions regarding the songs. Despite the talk of Perry stealing her tune, Bareilles said she doesn't feel like anything was taken from her artistically.
"I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment," she told the AP.
She later joked that she and Perry discussed doing a mashup of the two songs just to prove things were OK between them ... which if it did happen would sound something like this. We actually like the two songs together and don't think it's a bad idea - especially if they both danced out in public together like Bareilles did in the Brave video. Talk about YouTube success.
Brave was co-written with fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff and is the first single from Bareilles third album The Blessed Unrest, which was released in July.
Brave is back in the Top 40 after already reaching gold status and peaking at No. 31. Roar is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
We admit when Season 11 rocker Colton Dixon got the boot from American Idol, we responded with maturity ... if by maturity you mean a few thinly veiled threats to quit watching and some popcorn kernels lobbed at the TV.
So our inner fangirl is more than a little happy/excited/insert other similar adjectives here that Dixon didn't fade into oblivion after his departure.
His Flock of Seagulls hairdo still in effect, Dixon has released a video for his single Never Gone.
Since his time on Idol, the rocker has brought some much needed edge to Christian music, which has largely subsisted on three-chord acoustic and soccer mom-friendly radio tracks.
"I had the (Idol) platform to kind of jump-start (my career). I'm not sure I would have been able to do Christian music had I won. I'm happy with the way things turned out, and I wouldn't change anything," he told USA Today.
He released his debut album, A Messenger, in January.
Rock on, Colton. Rock on.
On Monday, Daft Punk released the full video for their single Lose Yourself to Dance featuring Pharrell Williams.
The electronic duo takes us back to the '70s with their disco-themed video and sparkly silver jackets. They also go to prove that sometimes a good beat is just about all it takes, no matter how repetitive the lyrics (for real, this song will get stuck in your head for days).
A teaser of the video first premiered on the MTV Video Music Awards.
