Deputies: One arrested after fatal shooting during gun sale

A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that officials say was accidental, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened Tuesday just after 8 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster in reference to a gunshot victim.

Once at the hospital, Deputies learned that Robert A. Hood, 35, had been transported by a personal vehicle to the hospital after being shot at his home.

Hood died shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Criminal Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators responded to both the hospital and Hood's home on South Avenue where they began a detailed investigation.

After investigating, deputies said Hood met Demario Buchanon, 30, at the home to buy a handgun.  During the meeting Hood and Buchanon were handling the weapon when it accidentally discharged, striking Hood one time in the abdominal area.

Officials said the shooting was accidental and not intentional.

Both Hood and Buchanon were prohibited by law from possessing firearms, and the handgun, which was located hidden near the scene, had been reported stolen, deputies said.

Buchanon was later arrested and charged with unlawful possession of handgun and possession of stolen property.

He was jailed and was awaiting a bond hearing as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.
