Irmo's police chief says he's spoken with an officer who parked in the fire lane in front of Walmart while visiting a bank inside the store a few weeks ago.

The officer's parking job was brought to the attention of WIS by a viewer on the station's Facebook page.

"I took this picture on August 19th 2013 at 6:49 pm at the Walmart in Irmo SC and it appears that the officer was in a hurry to get to the Allsouth Credit Union in Walmart before they closed at 7 pm, so he parked and blocked the fire lane to handle personal business," wrote the viewer.

We shared the photos with Chief Brian Buck who promised to look into the matter.

"Using the car number I was able to determine who the officer was in the bank," wrote Buck in an email to WIS. "We did not have a call for service there."

Buck would not say if he disciplined the officer but said he's had a conversation with him. "We are not allowed to discuss disciplinary issues in public," wrote Buck. "We have spoken with the officer involved and feel assured that he will not park there again unless there is an emergency at the Wal-Mart."

When asked what an officer would do if he or she observed a citizen parking in the same manner, Buck wrote, "We would probably ask them to move their car. However, it is a violation of a parking ordinance."
