(WMC-TV) - Millington police are investigating after a third grader brought a knife to Lucy Elementary School Thursday.

A letter was sent home to parents after school, although many were already well aware of what happened.

"My son was the one who got the knife pulled on him," said parent Marty Peters.

Peters said his 8-year-old son immediately reported that a knife was on campus.

According to the letter sent home to parents, staff took possession of the weapon and then called both SCS security and Millington Police. Police are now in charge of the investigation.

No students or staff were injured.

Meanwhile, the district commended the student who came forward.

"He did what he was supposed to do," said Peters. "I wish more parents would do that with their kids – teach them the right way and not the wrong way."

Like on other campuses, a no weapons warning is posted here.

The district plans to strictly discipline the student who brought a knife to school.

There have been a number of other knives found on SCS campuses this year in addition to two handguns.
