The Columbia Police Department has disciplined and ticketed an officer who parked in a loading zone between two handicapped parking spaces at an area bank Thursday morning.

Interim Police Chief Ruben Santiago looked into the matter after a WIS viewer on Thursday afternoon posted a picture on the station's Facebook page of the police cruiser parked in front of the South Carolina Bank and Trust building on Columbiana Drive.

The viewer wrote, "I am posting this because I just helped a handicap[ed] lady in a wheelchair get her chair in the back of her pickup truck earlier today at Petsmart. When you go to the bank and discover the officer parked here IN THE MIDDLE OF 2 HANDICAP SPOTS WHERE IT IS MARKED FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESS..."

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention," wrote a representative of the department on Twitter. "Interim Chief Santiago is addressing this concern. Clearly Not OK."

On Friday morning, the department posted the following on Twitter, "Officer disciplined & will be issued a pricey ticket per the law. Officer was @ bank for a requested employee escort."
