Man who fell 45 feet off of balcony recovers at The MED

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man fell an estimated 45 feet from a California balcony one month ago, but now Jason Taylor is at The MED recovering thanks to your help.

The community helped raise $25,000 for a medical flight to bring Taylor home to his family in the Bluff City.

"Just seeing your husband in that state, you go from normal everyday life to your whole life changing at a moment's time," said Jason's wife, Tara Taylor.

For almost one month, Jason has been in critical condition in a California hospital. He and his wife flew back to Memphis on a $25,000 medical flight Monday. The expensive tab was picked up by Mid-Southerners wanting to help.

"Our whole flight was paid for just from generous donations from friends, family, community, strangers, people we didn't even know that gave out of the kindness of their heart," said Tara.

Jason broke almost every rib in his body, shattered his pelvis, and damaged several organs from the fall. He is now breathing on his own. He still can't talk, but smiles may be all he needs when he sees his daughter and step-daughter for the first time in a month on Tuesday.

"We're going to pick them up after school, they'll be out here this afternoon. They'll be very excited because they don't know they're going to see him," said Tara.

Tara Taylor says her husband will spend several weeks in the intensive care unit before he is able to return home to DeSoto County for rehab.

Medical bills are piling up, so there are additional fundraisers in the works. On Saturday, September 21, a "Bring Jason Taylor Home Blackout Tournament" will be at Generations Bar and Grill. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Tournament starts at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $10.
