CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Some argue that Charleston has it all. The beaches, the ambiance, and the shopping, but according to a 2012 College of Charleston study, none of those took the number one spot on a list of "Charleston's greatest assets."

"It's the history and the culture of this city," says Maryland resident Sharon Burton. "It's so many things here to see."

"We just took the carriage ride, and it was so informative," says Tennessee resident Kathy Deline. "It was wonderful. I actually learned some history that I did not know."

"Love the tour of the homes and the history," says Margo Woodward, from North Carolina. "It's a wonderful city."

Seventy-two-year-old Ernest Powell is in Charleston to celebrate his son's marriage. Powell served in the Navy for years, but says, he never made it to Charleston.

"I was never stationed here, and all the way here that's all I thought about, to come downtown and see historic Charleston."

And in just a day, Powell says he's fallen in love with the city.

"I'm sure I'm going to have some good memories to take back to Washington D.C. with me."

According to a College of Charleston study, 4.5 million people visited the area in 2011 and spent $3.2 billion.
