Court decision exonerates deputy accused of abuse

Posted: Updated:

A federal jury has ruled against a man who claimed that he was abused by a Richland County sheriff's deputy in 2008.

Charles Green claimed his 14th amendment rights were violated when he was shot with a Taser several times during an attempt to arrest him in January of 2008.  Green filed the suit in December of 2008.

Doctors, the Sheriff's Department Internal Affairs, federal investigators and other independent investigators previously determined Green's rights were not violated and the deputy acted appropriately.

Tuesday a federal jury returned a verdict that exonerated the  deputy, saying Green's accusation was false.

Sheriff Lott said Green's injuries were a result of excessive cocaine in his system.
