COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina's general election is still more than a year away, but many incumbents already have a target on their back.

Perhaps the one with the biggest target is senior Sen. Lindsey Graham, who now has three challengers lining up against him for next June's primary: businesswoman Nancy Mace, state Sen. Lee Bright, and businessman Richard Cash.

Political action committees are also mobilizing ahead of the race in an effort to define the two-term senator.

One such PAC, Carolina Conservatives United, has already begun their campaign through the website DefeatLindseyGraham.org.

"Our biggest problem with Sen. Graham is that he's been in Washington since O.J. Simpson was chased up the freeway in a white Bronco," said Chairman Bruce Carroll.

The PAC doesn't support any specific candidate, but they do oppose Graham's record on immigration and national security.

"I think he's someone who works to cut deals, and I think he thinks that's his job," said Benjamin Howe, another member of the PAC.

But University of South Carolina political analyst Dr. Robert Oldendick says Graham has been successful in breaking up some gridlock in Washington, particularly on issues like immigration.

"He votes with the majority of Republicans on most issues," said Oldendick. "The criticism comes in that some of the things he's getting accomplished are more of a compromise."

With just 200 volunteers, the Carolina Conservatives are ramping up and planning rallies for South Carolina voters.

"This is what holding their feet to the fire is," said Howe. "You take their votes, you take their words, and you say this is what they said, now let me show it to the people and see if they agree with this guy."
