(WMC-TV) - Multiple Mid-South victims claim they were swindled out of their family's burial money by an insurance salesman who is nowhere to be found. Victims say the man would come by once a month to collect money to bury them. Now, the money and the man are gone.

"I'm telling you the truth, I don't know what I'd do if I saw him face to face," said victim Magnolia Johnson.

Johnson is livid. She says she, too, is a victim of an alleged burial insurance scheme by her insurance agent, Jerry Gardner.

"He had told me he was gonna bring me a new policy with another insurance company and I told him OK," she said. "And when he came back he didn't have the policy."

Action News 5 first introduced you to Gardner last week when we told you about Shannon Boyland whose family claims Gardner collected more than $20,000 from her over a 15 year period. But when she died, there was no money to bury her. That is exactly what Johnson says happened to her son. He died last week.

"I tell anybody from now on, if you talk to somebody about some life insurance, you better know what you're doing, and you better look into it," said Johnson.

Johnson's grandson, Chavez Johnson says he cannot believe what his grandmother is going through.

"We struggled to bury my uncle. We're still in debt now for his burial, and I would just like him to know that God is watching him," he said.

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance lists Gardner as unlicensed. Memphis Police say they are looking into the case, but no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

Meanwhile, Shannon Boyland's family has filed a police report against Gardner.
