RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Two brothers from Columbia who are sitting in jail in Charleston County have been charged with three separate burglaries of a Richland County elementary school.

Forensic evidence left during a burglary at Joseph Keels Elementary School in early August led deputies to Christopher Carroll, 22, and Dustin Carroll, 20, Sheriff Leon Lott said.

The August 3 break-in caused $1,500 dollars in damages to the building, however, the only thing missing from the school was $5.00 from an office drawer. According to jail records, August 3 was Christopher Carroll's birthday.

Lott said multiple Crimestoppers tips helped lead investigators to the Carroll brothers. "Ultimately forensic science and good investigative work is what solved these cases," said Lott.

Richland County deputies interviewed the Carroll brothers in the Charleston County Detention Center and determined that the two were responsible for burglaries in November, 2012, May, 2013 and August, 2013 at the school. They're also being charged with two residential burglaries near the school.

Christopher Carroll faces charges of driving under suspension and reckless driving in Charleston County, according to the Charleston County Detention Center website. Dustin Carroll faces burglary, purse snatching and armed robbery charges.

The pair will be transported to Richland County once their charges in Charleston are adjudicated or they receive a bond on those cases.
