COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A postal worker has been arrested and charged with breach of trust after Richland County deputies say he intercepted counterfeit money at his job.

Deputies say 45-year-old Richard Houghtallen was arrested at the Dutch Fork Post Office on Thursday afternoon.

Investigators say Houghtallen was caught after some of the money that was once in his possession was used at a Dunkin Donuts branch on Two Notch Road.

After issuing a search warrant for Houghtallen's residence, deputies found $10,000 worth of fake money that was meant to be handled by federal investigators.

Deputies say Houghtallen received the money through his job where local banks would send off the counterfeit bills to be investigated by the US Secret Service.

Houghtallen was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
