Small fire causes evacuation, short delays at MYR

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A small fire broke out in the kitchen of Nacho Hippo at the Myrtle Beach International airport at around 5:25 a.m. Friday morning.

The fire marshal tells us an employee left food on the burner by accident, which caused a lot of smoke, but not a lot of damage. Fire officials tell us the biggest issue was getting the smoke out of the terminal.

Airport spokesperson Kirk Lovell tells us there is very little odor left from the fire and Nacho Hippo is open and fully operational.

Lovell also tells us two employees were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Their condition is unknown at this hour.

Everyone was evacuated from the airport for about 10 to 15 minutes while fire crews worked the scene.

A few 7 a.m. flights were delayed by about 20 minutes, but everything is now back to normal.
