LADSON, SC (WCSC) -

A North Charleston Police Department officer has been placed on administrative duty after being charged with driving under the influence early Thursday after troopers say he collided with a car at Highway 78 and Ladson Road.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Stanley Tucker, a North Charleston police officer, was driving a 2005 Chevy pickup when he struck a 2012 Chevy sedan in the intersection around 12:40 a.m.

Tucker was attempting to turn right onto Highway 78 from Ladson Road when he struck the motorist, who was waiting to turn left onto Ladson Road from Highway 78, troopers said.

The motorist in the sedan was not wearing a seatbelt, but did not suffer any injuries.

Tucker was charged with DUI and taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.  He was issued a personal recognizance bond during a hearing at 10 a.m.

North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Tucker has been with the department since 2007, and would remain on administrative duty, pending the outcome of his arrest for DUI.
