Man accused of dunking baby in hot water, causing severe burns

A Cameron man has been arrested and accused of scalding his girlfriend's 17-month-old son.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety arrested 22-year-old Deron Antonio Robinson on a charge of abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child.

According to an arrest warrant, The toddler was taken to the hospital on July 12 with severe burns to his ankles and feet. The child was then taken a burn center in Augusta where doctors determined the child's feet were scalded after being dunked in hot water. Doctors said they will need to perform skin grafts on the burns.

Investigators found out that Robinson, who is the boyfriend of the child's mother, was caring for the boy at the couple's home when the child was burned. Robinson told investigators the child knocked over a pot of boiling water, but doctors say his burns did not include splash marks.
