COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers took a woman into custody Saturday night wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for kidnapping her two children from their grandparents' house in Maine.

Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said troopers arrested 34-year-old Bethmarie Retamozzo around 10:12 p.m. after a be-on-the-look-out was issued for a 1999 Nissan Quest with a New York tag.  Troopers found the van parked in Colleton County, at the rest area at mile marker 47 of southbound Interstate 95.

Retamozzo's six and seven-year-old children were found OK and were turned over to Colleton County Department of Social Services.  WGME in Maine said the children were named Joslyn and Joel, and were taken by their mother last Thursday during a supervised visit.

Retamozzo reportedly said she was taking the kids to a park in Fairfield, but never made it there.

The woman was booked at the Colleton County Detention Center on a charge of fugitive from justice.

She will remain there until FBI agents arrive to take custody, Bryant said.
