Still no confirmed deal for new Falcons stadium

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Mount Vernon Baptist Church held a special meeting to discuss ongoing negotiations Tuesday night.

The Atlanta Falcons want to build a new stadium on the south site located south of the Georgia Dome, but to do that, Mount Vernon must agree to a deal.

Another church there, Friendship Baptist has already reached a deal.

Church members wouldn't say much after talks that lasted nearly three hours.

The closed door meeting comes after church leaders rejected the Georgia World Congress Center's $6.2 million offer, to make way for a new stadium.

The church wants $20 million, the same amount Mayor Kasim Reed said the Falcons agreed to pay nearby Friendship Baptist Church.

Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young attended the meeting along with Mayor Reed.

Young told CBS Atlanta News that the church can agree on a deal and still continue its ministry.

Young said the meeting went well, but the church needs a little time to think over all the options.

Pastor Rodney Turner's daughter Seana Turner agreed with Young.

"The biggest thing is to make the best decision, and make sure the church and the community is involved," said Turner.

Pastor Turner drove away giving the thumbs up sign, and asked for prayers.

There's no word on when both sides will meet again.
