SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

For nearly two weeks, Spartanburg will have a new addition to its skyline with a Ferris wheel going up.

The city announced a Ferris wheel will be in town from Aug. 14-25 along Spring Street between Main and West Broad, next to the Downtown Clock Tower.

Riders will be able to see for miles from atop the 90-foot Ferris wheel, which is 20' taller than the clock tower. And others will be able to see the wheel from afar because it lights up.

The gondola-style Ferris wheel is named WOLI for Wheel of Lights and Inspirations because it is decorated in thousands of LED lights.

Rides will cost $5 for adults and $3 for kids 12 and under. Plus, there will be a special phrase kids can say to get on for $1.

Spartanburg snagged the festive ride thanks to a private, local donor who is paying the bill to bring WOLI to town.

And the wheel doesn't travel alone, it comes along with a lighted hula hoop troupe, artists and other festival entertainers.

Crews will begin to construct WOLI on Tuesday with the first ride scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Here are the hours for the Ferris wheel while it's in town:

  • August 14: 4 p.m.-11 p.m.
  • August 15-17: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • August 18: Noon-11 p.m.
  • August 19-23: 4 p.m.-11 p.m.
  • August 24: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • August 25: Noon-11 p.m.
