21 employees reassigned in Sumter School District shakeup

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Twenty-one employees with the Sumter School District will be reassigned to new places and different positions within the district, a report indicated Tuesday afternoon.

The personnel report, released by new Interim Superintendent Frank Baker, was given to the School Board on Tuesday night. Board members voted 6 to 1 in favor of the report.

The document lists names of employees from around the district who have been given new assignments.

One of the biggest names on the list is Sterling Harris, the now-former principal of Sumter High School. Harris has been reassigned to Brewington Academy, the district's alternative school.

Harris' move comes after state Education Department monitors found standardized testing at Sumter High was unorganized. Monitors claim it took too long to get students started into testing, lunch for students was rushed, and teachers were never trained on the proper procedures.

Three teachers moved from Sumter High after speaking out have been reinstated.

Dana Fall moves from Brewington Academy to act as the new Sumter High principal.

Local Education Association president Luther Barnett says he's pledged to help Dr. Baker heal the district by getting more teachers involved with the community.
