SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Sources tell FOX Carolina something big is coming to downtown Spartanburg.
Spartanburg City's Facebook page states:
"Without being wheel specific, something big is coming."
"It's always positive when we get something in downtown because it attracts new people," Xela Pinkerton said.
She's the assistant manager at Sock Basket on East Main Street.
"We have dance wear, we have liturgical wear for like praise dancing, gymnastics wear, we have all kinds of shoes for fitness as well," Pinkerton said.
And she said she likes it when more foot traffic hits the door.
"If you don't come downtown, you don't know that there are new stores," Pinkerton said.
Just across the street from the shop is a building with a sign in the window that states "coming soon." Pinkerton said that could mean more business for Sock Basket.
Sources tell FOX Carolina the big thing that has the heads of those in Spartanburg spinning is a Ferris wheel in downtown, which will be given by a donor. And although city officials won't comment, Pinkerton believes it's their next big creative creation to get people downtown.
"They put in a large amount of effort to get something that is different because it does actually get people down here. If it's the same old thing every year, people are like, 'Yeah we've done that,'" Pinkerton said.
She said the Sock Basket opened nearly six years ago and even though they have loyal customers, some people don't know they're there.
"There are a lot of people that will come in and say, 'Oh, how long have you been here?' And they act really surprised," Pinkerton said.
There's no word yet on a specific date when the Ferris wheel will arrive and open for business.
