COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Columbia Police say officers found a man who ran from a traffic stop hiding in a trash bin.

Based on preliminary information, police say a woman called them at about 3 p.m. Sunday saying she saw the car she reported stolen Saturday night. The woman told police she was following the vehicle near Schoolhouse Road.

A K-9 unit attempted to pull the vehicle over near Chestnut Street, but it took off.  The car crashed into a fence on Barnhamville Road near Slighs Avenue and the two men inside the car ran off.

Police say they captured one of the men on Ithaca Street.  The other was found hiding in a garbage bin on Walker Solomon Way.

Investigators have not yet determined if the vehicle the men were driving was the same one reported stolen.  They are also working to determine why the men ran away.
