MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis airline is expanding just months after getting off the ground.

A ribbon cutting was held for Southern Airways Express Thursday, but it is just the beginning of what they say is a new way to travel.

For 30 years, pilot Bruce Jacobs has been taking to the skies, but his latest adventures brought him to Memphis – blue suede shoes and all with Southern Airways Express.

Passengers find him flying a Cessna Caravan 208, a plane he is partial to flying.

"We have just a wonderful view in this airplane it's almost like a scenic tour," he said.

The view is an added bonus for Noel Howe who booked her tickets to avoid a long drive.

"For me, with two little kids, we walked straight up we checked out bag at the curb and walked straight out here, no lines, no hassle, and it was affordable. So that's all wins for me," she said.

As for the flights, Southern Airways Express announced flights from Memphis to Atlanta and Birmingham daily. Starting in the fall, there will be weekend flights to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Knoxville.

"We think it's good for competition to have multiple carriers on as many routes as possible," said Chairman CEO Stan Little.

Direct routes, with no bag fees, an iPad for each passenger and a view like no other are just a few benefits of Southern Airways Express.

"They're excited about the view, I'll let you know in two hours how I feel about it," said Howe.
