Sunshine continues, but rain is on the way

Posted: Updated:

The last two days of July will bring a mixed bag of weather, from fog this morning, to some sunshine, and then the rain returns.  Isolated morning fog should lift before noon with high pressure over the Carolinas keeping us dry overall, and temperatures will reach back into the upper 80s Upstate and lower 80s in the mountains under partly cloudy skies.  Late in the afternoon, we could see an isolated shower or passing storm, but it's likely that most of our area will stay dry.  Clouds will build into the late evening and a few overnight showers are possible.  Though most will wake up to dry weather and cloudy skies, a few morning showers are possible though most of the rain and storms will hold off until mid-to-late day Wednesday.  Under the clouds, highs will only reach the upper 70s to middle 80s.  The upper level disturbance followed by a passing cold front could trigger some of the storms to be on the stronger side, with our main concerns being pockets of heavy rain and strong wind.  If the front passes quickly, we'll see a few lingering storms on Thursday (the first day of AUGUST - can you believe it?) and start to clear out, but a slower-moving system could bring a few scattered storms all day Thursday.  Either way, to end the week on Friday we're back to sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 80s.  As of right now, the weekend looks to be split in two, with sunshine and a slim chance for a pop up storm Saturday, and more widespread rain expected on Sunday.
