While on a trip to the upstate last summer, a group of Midlands Boy Scouts were involved in a serious accident.  The van they were riding in flipped down an embankment.

Although no one's life was taken, one of the scouts lost a leg, and in the last year DJ Rish has made a remarkable recovery. We first introduced you to 16-year old Rish as he trained for an event that would put his months of physical therapy and hard work to a test.

Saturday Rish proved all that hard work paid off. Rish ran his first triathlon at the Northwest YMCA in Irmo.

He began with laps in the pool. Then took to the pedal. And finally hit the pavement. It took two hours, and one of his biggest fans was with him through it all.

"This time last year I was in a hospital just pleading with people praying for him to know that he's going to walk and going to run again," said DJ's mother, Angie.

Rish's mother Angie wasn't alone when it came to sticking by him. Many who were on their knees praying for him only a year ago after the accident, were standing to cheer him on Saturday.

"When we finished the bike and started to run, just seeing the crowd of people was fantastic," said DJ. "And then when we finished and I had the group of people following me that was awesome!"

Rish finished the triathlon faster than he imagined, proving to himself that hard work, dedication, and a little help from above can go a long way.
