Woman undergoing treatment for rabies after bitten by dog

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A woman says she is currently undergoing treatment for rabies after being bitten by a dog which may have been rabid.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Highway 165 in Ravenel in reference to a dog bite.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, said while she was changing her tires Sunday afternoon, thee dogs charged her. According to the victim, as she tried to get in her car, one of the dogs attacked and bit her on both legs.

The victim said the dog that bit her was foaming from the mouth. The sheriff's office says the victim sustained bites to her lower back legs.

An incident report states the victim heard that the dog that attacked her had someone else in the area, and was shot and killed. On Monday evening, she went to the area where the dog was killed and identified it as the one that bit her.

The victim said she placed the dog in a bag and contacted animal control. DHEC were then notified and took the dog to Columbia for testing.

The victim said she has been undergoing treatment for rabies.
