Posted: Updated:

The former president of the Bluffton Dog Park has been found dead, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

William Grooms had recently been accused of embezzlement for stealing more than $10,000 from the Friends of Bluffton Dog Park. Grooms' wife was also charged for her involvement.

Officials with the Bluffton Police Dept. said Grooms was found dead Sunday in a Bluffton park. His body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Charleston for an autopsy.

Shortly after his arrest last month, Grooms filed a report saying he had been assaulted.

Authorities are not releasing details on exactly how Grooms died at this time.

Grooms' death is under investigation.
