Attorney: Student busted trying to change college grades

Posted: Updated:

A Ferris Bueller-esque stunt backfired for a 21-year-old Aiken man who pleaded guilty Friday in federal court after investigators said he was busted trying to hack into the University of South Carolina website to change his semester grades.

Max Raymond Dufour pleaded guilty to information charging fraud and related activity in connection with access devices.

Investigators said not only did he try to change his college grades, but Dufour harvested over two hundred usernames and passwords in a hacking scheme and gained access to over fifty email accounts and financial record.

Official say Dufour also used the stolen information to buy items and also attempted to sell that information.

Dufour could face a $250,000 fine and/or 10 years in prison.
