SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Less than 24 hours after a Summerville teen screamed and struggled her way out of an attempted kidnapping, her mother says a facebook post detailing her attacker has 'gone viral' on Facebook.

The incident happened early Wednesday morning on Rosario Drive, in the Plum Creek subdivision.

"It's been awful," she Christy Middaugh, the teen's mother. "Everyone in the neighborhood can't believe it we're all in shock."

From her cell phone, Middaugh is watching word spread.

"It's all over," said Middaugh. "I'm glad it's getting out there and everybody is aware and they keep their eyes open."

The victim's mother says it's refreshing to see so many people so passionate about finding someone who attempted to do something so wrong.

"You don't know what could have happened, would have happened if this person would have taken her," said Middaugh.

Just before one o'clock Wednesday morning, Middaugh says her daughter was on the phone, walking a street away from her house when a low rider pick up truck stopped next to her.

"He got out, rushed her, grabbed her," said Middaugh. "She screamed, he told her to shut up and during the altercation she got an elbow to the face and fortunately she was able to get away and run back into the yard."

The victim describes her attacker as a white man approximately six feet tall with short dark hair and possibly in his 30s. The teen says he was driving a small, older model, dark pickup truck that appeared to be a low rider.

As Middaugh's daughter put an ice pack to her face after the incident, the first status update hit social media to be on the look out for the man.

"It's gone viral," says Middaugh.

Two blocks away, Mike Greer says he heard though a post. The same post that has been shared more than 700 times.

"As a parent, it's quite alarming but I'm glad it's on Facebook," says Greer. "News spreads very quickly."

In less than 24 hours, taking the amount of shares into account, it's possible the initial posting has been seen by tens of thousands of people.

"Getting the word out via social media is actually a good tool," said Dorchester Co. Chief Deputy Sam Richardson.

Richardson believes the more people who know, the better.

"Especially in this particular case we want to get the word out to everyone as far as the seriousness of the circumstances around this issue," he said.

The case is still under investigation by The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division.
