Coroner: Driver trying to move broken-down car killed on I-26

SWANSEA, SC (WIS) -The Calhoun County Coroner has identified a pedestrian killed early Wednesday morning on Interstate 26.

Coroner Donnie Porth says it appears 48-year-old Freddie Guthrie of Columbia was trying to push his vehicle out of traffic after it had broken down in the westbound lane near the 120 mile marker.

The crash occurred at about 2:55 a.m. and shut down the right lane for several hours.

Troopers say a tractor trailer came up on the Ford Taurus that was stopped on the interstate, but didn't see it until the last minute. They say the tractor trailer proceeded to sideswipe the vehicle and hit Guthrie,  who was standing next to it.

The crash remains under investigation.
